Service Members May Purchase Vision Insurance for Their Families in 2019

Starting on November 12, 2018, Active Duty Family Members and Reserve Members will have access to the Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) for purchasing vision insurance.
Starting in 2019, Service Members will be able to purchase Vision Insurance for their families.

What does this mean to you?

You are able to purchase vision insurance for your family for the 2019 calendar year to obtain additional and more comprehensive coverage for your families. Do not delay, as the window to enroll your family into a vision plan closes on December 10, 2018.  Waiting beyond this time may prevent your dependents from having access to additional vision insurance.

As Service Members will continue to receive full health care with TRICARE, no action is needed on their part.  Rather, the vision insurance is needed for their dependents.  Family Members can  determine their eligibility with this tool.

Service Members and their families will have the option to choose between four different insurance providers with each provider offering a Standard and a High plan.  The cost for the plans vary based on which plan you select and on the number of people the plan covers.  The prices are available after checking for eligibility.

Once enrolled, the default payment method for the Family Member will be a recurring Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).  Forms are provided at enrollment which can be used to have the payment completed as an allotment.

Although the BENEFEDS website offers the option to purchase dental insurance, it is not required for Active Duty Service Members as their family will still be enrolled under the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP).
