Members of the Armed Forces and DoD Civilians can take advantage of a free license for McAfee Antivirus in 2019. This program, offered by the Defense Information Systems Agency, or DISA, allows for members of the DoD to protect their home computers. At this time, DoD Contractors are not able to participate in this program.
I have personally used this McAfee program for years. In addition to the virus scanning capabilities, this software can scan installed programs on your computer to let you know if they have updates available. This is critical as malware exploits computers with old versions of software.
To get started, log in at the DISA Site here. You will be required to log on with your CAC. Once there, click on the link for “McAfee Home Use Instructions.”
If you need help to get your CAC to work on your home computer, read this article.
Next, you will be at the DoD Patch Repository. On this page, you will see a link for a file called “CM-235593-McAfee_AV_HUP_7JAN20
Within the document, you will find the URL for both PC and Mac versions of the McAfee Antivirus. Additionally, you receive the company codes needed for the installation.
Once you navigate to the correct URL for your operating system, enter the company code obtained from the word document and your email address. Click on “Get Email.“
Check your email for further directions from McAfee on how to get the software. Remember, this is for your home computer so do not install the software on your government computer.
Yes, it is really that easy to save money while protecting your computer at the same time.
